Images and Case Reports in Interventional Cardiology Severe Multivessel Coronary Vasospasm and Left Ventricular Ballooning Syndrome
نویسنده
چکیده
In their first description of Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TC), Dote et al1 hypothesized that the disease was caused by multivessel coronary vasospasm, because 4 of 5 patients in their report had either spontaneous or provocable coronary vasospasm on coronary angiography. However, later studies did not find supporting evidence for the pathogenic role of coronary vasospasm. Recently, the vasospasm hypothesis of TC revived. In a small case series from the United States, Angelini2 was able to provoke severe coronary vasospasm by intracoronary application of acetylcholine in 4 patients with the disease.

متن کاملLeft ventricular ballooning syndrome due to vasospasm of the middle portion of the left anterior descending coronary artery.
We report a case that shows vasospasm to be one of the mechanisms responsible for left ventricular ballooning syndrome. Our case suggests that identical ventriculographic findings in patients with tako-tsubo syndrome and those with coronary vasospasm of a long left anterior descending artery coronary artery may be due to a common etiology.
متن کاملApical myocardial infarction with bizarre coronary images mimicking left ventricular apical ballooning syndrome: a case report
INTRODUCTION Although several etiopathogenetic mechanisms have been proposed, the causes of left ventricular apical ballooning syndrome are still controversial. CASE PRESENTATION A 51-year-old Japanese woman consulted the emergency room complaining of the sudden onset of anterior chest pain while shopping. We initially suspected her disease as left ventricular apical ballooning syndrome based...
متن کاملStress-Induced Cardiomyopathy: A Need for Prospective Multicenter Trials
Stress-induced cardiomyopathy (also called Takotsubo cardiomyopathy, apical ballooning, or broken heart syndrome) was first reported in 1991 as “myocardial stunning due to simultaneous multivessel coronary spasms: a review of 5 cases” by Japanese doctors, and is well known disease entity now. This disease primarily affects postmenopausal women after psychological or physical stress. Clinical ch...
متن کاملTakotsubo cardiomyopathy (left ventricular ballooning syndrome) induced during dobutamine stress echocardiography.
A 75-year-old woman presented with left ventricular apical ballooning syndrome mimicking acute anterior myocardial infarction. She had a long history of chest tightness and was undergoing a contrast stress echocardiogram because of frequent re-admissions with chest pain, all with normal ECGs and troponins. A standard dobutamine/atropine protocol had been used. The patient developed central crus...
